steel wheel help

I'm needing a pair of 15x6 or 15x7 5 lug steel wheels with less then 4" of backspacing. Is there any stock wheels out there like this? Anything aftermarket? I'm needing the factory style wheels with the bumps for the dog dish hubcap attachment.

All the wheels I've come across have 4" backspacing. 3 1/2" or 3 5/8" backspacing would be ideal.

Thanks,

Look like the 15x6's would work. Any others out there? Stock or aftermarket.

Re: steel wheel help

I might be wrong, but I would think stock 15 x 6 wheels off of a '71 or '72 1/2 ton would be exactly what you're looking for.

Any GM full-size car (Buick, Olds, Cadillac and Pontiac) up to '77, should have a wheel you could use. Chevrolet full-size in '71 and up, also used 15's. Any of the GM trucks (1/2-ton) from '71-87 should also have wheels that you can use.

I'll verify tomorrow, but I had a pair of stock 5 lug wheels on the front of my truck didn't clear my control arms. 15x6 I thought and they had 4" of backspacing. I'm running into the backspacing issue because of tubular control arms and a 3" drop spindle. That's the reason for needing around 3 1/2". Right now I've got a 15X7 rally bolted up and it clears, but its close. The rally (15X7) has 3 5/8" backspacing.

Rechecked the wheels I have and they have 4" b.s. Looks to be 6 or 6 1/2" wide rim.

Anyone? Where can I find a 15X6 or 15X7 with less then 4" of backspacing?

Re: steel wheel help

I have a pair of aluminum split-six wheels that are 7 inches wide and have a 3.5 inch backspace. I had to run them on the front of my '96, because the backside of the lower control arms would come into contact with the rims of anything with more backspace, like the 15x8's that were on it when it was lowered. I feel your pain, but I can't answer your question.

Look at www.wheelvintiques.com and see what you can find. I went with this wheel in a 16x7 to avoid the issue I mentioned above, on my '96. They are silver powder coat when you get 'em, but I didn't leave 'em that way.

Re: steel wheel help

Doug it sounds like your stock steel wheels are the 88 up models which do have more backspace. You would need truck wheels for the 87 and down and measure one of them. I think the 6" rims are in the 3 to 3 1/2" bspace range. Some guys also use aftermarket spacers behind their wheels to get an additional 1/4" or so clearance.

Could be. Didn't think of that. The wheels were on the rolling chassis I bought. Really didn't have a clue what year they are from.

Thanks,
