help with sensors and emissions sensors
need help with what to cap off on the manifold and carb.as well as the varoius sensors.there is the oil sending unit at the back of the block.on the side of the head with the wire is that for emissions.this is a small block chevy mid 1980s. |

I see no other sensors and that's not technically a sensor in the head, it's a temp sending unit for the gauge to tell the temp, same as the oil pressure one tells the oil pressure. I see nothing to be plugged or capped off anywhere, as for ports on the carb you'll only know that when it's in the vehicle, like power brakes, auto trans with modulator, etc.

I see the vacuam advance from the distrubutor to the carburator.no pcv valve .do i just cap that off.so other than the temperture sensor on the one side of the head.that gets hooked to the guage.and the oil sensor at the back of the block that goes to the guage.is there anything else.do i have to cap off anything on the edelbrock manifold.sorry guys totally lost on this aspect of the build.

it depends on what it goes in. you need a vac. source for the dist off the carb some say ported some say full vac. I go ported or timed vac.
if you run a th350 or 400 trans you need direct manifolds vac. off the intake or carb to it. if you have power brakes you need direct vac. off intake or carb for it. YOU NEED A PCV and it needs to be hooked up to the carb big port front or rear. or full time vac. on the intake. if you run a mech. oil pressure gauge it must be a mech sending unit with a copper or nylon tube going from the gauge to it. if you run an electric in dash unit or whatever like most stock ones you need the right one for the vehicle, some are light only seom are gauge. Same for the temp sending unit, not sensor, it looks like it was a mech. one with the wire cut, so in that case it's junk, you get the probe and wire with the gauge, and they DO NOT come apart, so you need a whole new one or use the factory one or whatever and the sending unit to match, again some have light only some have a gauge. The sending unit needs to match what your are trying to use in dash. IMO go to your local parts store or call up jegs or summit, get ya a 3 gauge pod with all the hardware, oil press. temp, and volts, around $40 for everything. Then run those and use em. You need heater hoses, one to intake and one to water pump or maybe a varaition to the radiator instead of the water pump, it varys.
