06 sierra with tranny issue
My dad's 06 Sierra trans has an engagement issue while taking off from a stop. It starts to rev up to about 2500-3000rpm then it starts to take off slowly. The 2-3 and 3-4 shift is normal. Any suggestions or ideas on what is causing the problem?

Re: 06 sierra with tranny issue
automatic or manual? 2 or 4 wheel drive? Does it do this on a hill, flat ground, all the time or part of the time, loaded or unloaded or both? If i go by just what you have stated it sounds like first gear clutches are gone providing that you an automatic and not a manual transmission. Does reverse work? need more info.

Re: 06 sierra with tranny issue
2WD automatic, 67k miles on truck, only happens when starting from a stop, terrain does not make a difference, all other gears shift and work normally.

Re: 06 sierra with tranny issue
Try manually pulling the shifter down to first gear. Does it hold or still slip?

Re: 06 sierra with tranny issue
Nothing good comes from reving the engine to 3000 rpm to get the truck to move, Whatever is wrong with it....Your making it wor$e by doing that.
Check the transmission fluid. If thats good...pull the transmission & have it rebuilt. |

Re: 06 sierra with tranny issue
I agree with clinebarger. sounds like first gear clutches are either gone or atleast severely slipping for whatever reason and the trans needs to be rebuilt. If only there was a simple inexpensive repair for that.
