Couple of problems with power locks
My new truck is a 2000 model crew cab but it is the classic body style so I figured you guys could help me out. I am having a couple of problems with the power locks in the truck I just bought.
First, When using the key fobb, The drivers door will not lock. You can see it moving but it won't fully go down. It will usually unlock with the fob though but not always. Same thing with the passenger rear door. I have been told I just need to get some lithium grease and grease the mechanisms behind the door panels. Does that sound right to you guys? Next, the power lock switches on the driver and passenger doors do not work. The windows work fine it is just the door locks. If I want to unlock the other doors I have to use the key fob. It is really irritating. Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help. |

Re: Couple of problems with power locks
If the locking mechanisms for each door is working witht the fob you can eliminate the solenoids and the wiring to them. Next would be to see if the switches are working by testing them. if you have continuity thru the switches then look at wiring between switches and body control module.

Re: Couple of problems with power locks
I'm not personaly fond of lithium grease. I find that it gets hard and cakes up after a while, making the problem worse. I suggest just using regular grease.
The most common problem I see with either door or window switches is corroded contacts. If one side of the truck isn't making good contact, then neither side will work. I suggest removing the switches and cleaning the posts with a little fine sandpaper. Plug them all back in, and see if that fixes the problem. Tav |

Re: Couple of problems with power locks
I think I will try checking the switches. I am also going to just replace the solenoids on the doors that the fob won't completely lock. I pulled a door panel today and it looks like the solenoid just doesn't have enough umph to move the lock.
I don't really even see what it is I would grease??? It is a pretty simple setup. |
