No reverse lights. 4 speed.

I switched the bulbs out.
I checked all my fuses. The rest of my lights work expect for a couple in the dash. Some of them work though.
Where is the switch? its a 4 speed. Is it right on top of the transmission? That's the only thing I see on it. Its plugged in.
What am I looking for?
Its an 83 Scottsdale 4x4 4 speed.
I'm trying to get this thing inspected Saturday.
I have a few things to fix first though.
Thanks guys.

Re: No reverse lights. 4 speed.

Put it in reverse and move the shifter around a bit and see if the lights come on...I had to do that with the SM-465 I had in my burb. There is also the possibilty the switch is bad too.

So, the switch is on top of the tranny?

Re: No reverse lights. 4 speed.

For the manual trans it is on the top driver side if I remember right. For th TH-400 it should be on the column down low...the neutral safety switch is part of the reverse light switch.

Re: No reverse lights. 4 speed.

Well, I replaced the reverse switch and no luck.
I'm thinking its the Jerry rigged trailer lights underneath that is causing the problem.

Re: No reverse lights. 4 speed.

Unplug it from the switch and check for power. One side should have power. If it does. Jump the connector with a jumper wire. This will bypass the switch. Now go out back at the connector under the bed and disconnect. Check for power there as well. I fit does moved back further and keep checking. Basically what you are doing is checking for power at certain stages. Where ever the power stops. You're problem is between the last spot you had power and the spot it was lost. You probably are right about the trailer wiring though. People do some amazingly bad things there. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Re: No reverse lights. 4 speed.

Test light will work just fine. Ya I would say just do like stated above and figure out if your getting power back there. That sucks about the trailer wiring that's probably the culprit, can't tell you have many times I had to fix crappy wiring grrr!
