Finally painted
After many years, I can finally say my truck is basically "completed" (since we know they are never FINISHED). Went the Maaco route. Got what I expected for $400 paint, few spots that didn't come out 100%, but that is what I was looking for, something presentable that didn't cost thousands. I included some pics of the truck from over the years to now.

Re: Finally painted
Looks really good, almost totally different truck! Did Maaco do any kind of sanding or filler primer? I was thinking about this for another car I just got but wasnt really sure on what maaco did/didnt do with their cheap paint jobs.

Re: Finally painted
It was defintitly risky going with black at Maaco, but I think that you definitly got your moneys worth! I have seen black paint jobs that people spent $3000 on not look as good as yours.

Re: Finally painted
Yup, I know black shows everything but I wanted to keep it factory color. As far as prep before paint, I was told it was sanded down/ DA'd but honostly, who really knows, they can tell you anything.
The most extensive body work on this truck, that I did myself, were the cab corners and rocker panels. I never did this type of work before nor did I ever use filler before. Very happy with the results for rookie work. I will say I would never want to do it again. With body work I learned there is really no in-between (unless you are skilled to do it all yourself). It's either Maaco, or spend thousands. For a daily driver where prestine detail is of no concern, I would recommend it. Of course though, the Maaco I went to and the Maaco someone else goes to can be drastically different in quality. But the real test will be how long the paint will last! I'm hoping a few years atleast LOL.

Re: Finally painted
I had my son's car painted there and I wasn't impressed with their rarely cleaned spray guns. The sides were real rough. If it's not a clear coated and your real gutsy you can wait a few weeks and color sand it with some real fine paper (1200 grit check with the pros) and then buff it out with some fine polishing compound.
Otherwise from what I see of your truck looks great. Wait a min Yeah I gotta say it again you did a grat job with your truck. I looks great. Still feel energetic? Come over and get some more practice in mine. Last edited by 1LowToy; 06-10-2011 at 09:43 PM. |

Re: Finally painted
Looks good to me too. I bet that it will hold up for a few years. It's all about the prep, and it looks like you did alot of that yourself.
