Original Tire size

Does anyone know the original tire size of a 67 half ton? The spare tire has a H78 on the tire, i guess it is the original or at least very old. Can't find anything on the net. Any info is helpful. Thanks Josh

Re: Original Tire size

7.75-15. 8.00 or 8.25's were optional.

Re: Original Tire size

Great info ChevLoRay!

From a thread a few years ago, HERE; tire size was determined by GVW.

Per RJGeister in post nine…
“According to the resto guide I received from Chevrolet, it is based on GVW.
4400 lbs was a G78-15 bias ply tire. 5400 lbs was a H78-15 bias ply tire or a 6.50-16 bias ply tire.”

I too believe most 1/2 ton coil sprung trucks got 15".

If you still have your original seat, search for the build sheet
there (usually) or behind the sound proofing for your gas tank.
I was able to fish mine out and save it…gave a wealth of info on
my truck that wasn’t included on the SPID.

For instance, on my build sheet for my ’68, that pretty much fits
in my case; mine was an odd-ball 1/2 ton with leaf springs...

It lists three tires on my build sheet:
R69 …R650x16x6
R69 …S650x16x6
R61 …F650x16x6

I figure one must be the spare and the other two, the front and rear.
My dads ¾ ton GMC had 16” 8 ply tires stock (split rims).

GREAT THREAD! Thanks je406!!

Here’s a partial picture of mine, mentioning tires…
