85 Shock mounting questions

On our trucks the shocks are mounted 1 in front and 1 behind the rear end. Is there any drawback to mounting them both behind the rear end?

Re: 85 Shock mounting questions

My driver side is on the back side of the axle and the passenger side is on the front...

Edit, my '78, the '87 4wd K5 and the '77 2wd K5 frame are all this way.

This is correct. To counter act both wheel hop and wheel tramp:

Hop - both wheels going up and down at the same time

and

Wheel Tramp - rear wheels going up and down alternately.

Re: 85 Shock mounting questions

With caltracs and a flip kit, will mounting both shocks in front of or behind the rear pose any major problems?

Re: 85 Shock mounting questions

well the caltracs keep the spring from forming that S shape that will cause your wheels to unload and cause wheel hop. so I imagine with the caltrac switching the shocks will yield a more consistant launch that is both most likely straighter and level.
just make sure you have your pinion angle set corectly and you should be rather happy with the setup.

try asking some of the guys in the suspension forum they would prob be more qualified to give you the info you seek.
