quick and dirty stereo install

I figured out a way to install a stereo under the heater controls that is SIMPLE to do.

I have an old heater control with the little metal mounting bracket still attached and thought, "why not invert that thing and use it to mount up a radio using the two heater control bolts on the underside of the dash?" so i took it and drilled out the threaded bolts welded to it and then chiseled them off. I did this to make the two factory bolts work...they'd be too short otherwise. Then, the other two holes I used to connect the stereo's "cage" to. (it's an install kit from a 96+ chevy metro) I think it looks pretty good all things considered, and this is just a mock up. I have to make a better cage for the radio that isn't so theft invoking, and get around to installing 6x9's under the seat.

To wire the radio up, I just ran the 12v+ and ground all the way out to the battery and then connected the switched 12v lead to the RADIO pin in the fuse panel...easy!

The pics of the heater bracket are lousy, but if you are holding one in your hand you can see how it will work. The best part is I can take the whole thing out and no one would ever know it was there. Thanks.

Re: quick and dirty stereo install

if it was me and you are going to do that..
you'll need more than 2 bolts to keep a thief at bay..
yes you say that in your post, but there isn't much to bolt it to, down there
good luck..
