Engine / transmission swap? Parts truck.
I am looking at buying a 1972 2wd C10 longbed with a 350 4 bolt main / 350 turbo transmission as a possible parts truck for my 71 k5. The owner bought it and started to rebuild as a project with motor and trans first. The motor and trans have both been rebuilt in the last year and a half. What if any modifications / parts might i need or can I swap them straight in to my K5?
Also, had anybody ever taken the bed out of a long bed and used it in k5? If I am going to buy this c10 I would like to get as man parts off of it as possible for the k5. Basically, how much of the C10 can I use on the K5? I need the floor boards, bed area, the engine and transmission because mine are dumping fluids out everywhere. Thanks

Re: Engine / transmission swap? Parts truck.
Engine and trans is a direct exchange. Blazers had the same combo 350/350, unless yours was a inline 6 with 3 on the tree manual trans. As for the bed you would have to section it to get it to fit, but all other sheet medal should be the same. Trucks did not have the toque boxes though so would have to find some if you need to replace them on the blazer. Good luck and have fun with the build.

Re: Engine / transmission swap? Parts truck.
So, I have the engine and tran pulled out of the c10. Small problem, the tail shafts need to be swapped from my trans on the blazer to the one out of the c10 because it has a long tail shaft because the c10 was a long bed.
How big of a pain is this swap and has anyone done one? Would it be best just to take it to a shop and have them swap? Thanks.

Re: Engine / transmission swap? Parts truck.
The tail shaft on that is not because it was in a long bed truck, it's because the truck is a 2 wheel drive. 4x4's did not have the back piece so it would mate with the transfer case. As far as how hard, depends if you've built a tranny before. You would have to get into the trans to switch, might be easier to have a trans shop do it. Sorry I didn't mention the 2x4 and 4x4 differences before, but it is the same trans.

Re: Engine / transmission swap? Parts truck.
Its all good. I talked to a guy at a shop here in town that will switch the shafts out for $250. I have never messed with transmission and do not want to goof anything up. Thanks for the info.
