Headers for Vortec heads for '87
I'm having a 383 with Vortec heads built for my '87 R10/C10. I'd like to utilize longtube headers (I know I need to weld in a o2 sensor) but am having a little problem trying to figure out if I need any special headers because of the Vortec heads.
At first I thought I would need "d-port" design headers but I'm not so sure anymore. Regular '87 longtube headers are cheaper but I found a good price through Summit on a set of Hedman's (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-69099/) for an '87 with D-port, but like I said, I don't know that I need those or if Vortec heads are actually even considered "d-port." ....any thoughts or experience? I used standard headers on my Vortecs.

Re: Headers for Vortec heads for '87
I used standard Summit long tube headers, but I just recently discovered they make header gaskets specifically for vortec heads. I bought a set of Percy's "dead soft" aluminum ones. If you can't find them let me know and I'll get the number off of them for you.

Re: Headers for Vortec heads for '87
I don't know about any of the rest of that, but you can buy a header reducer that has an 02 bung in it, or you can just buy the bung itself and weld in into your reducer or exhaust pipe. (don't have the bung part number handy, sorry...)
There are two different reducers, be sure you order the correct one, I didn't but Summit was good about exchanging it for the right one. Quote:
