Question small back window, sliding glass options?

Howdy folks.

I am curious about the sliding glass options for the small back window trucks.

I know these were a dealer installed option or do it yourself aftermarket option back in the day.

I'm just curious about different ones... quality ones... one sliding pane or two sliding panes of glass, etc..

If you have one, please post up an image.

I'm just curious what is out there.

Thanks.

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

Here's an earlier thread with a bunch of information. I'm interested in more input as well. I've considered putting one in my truck a few times:

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

I have a back window similar to the one from LMC. I rarely use it in the summer time because it tends to draw in a lot of hot air coming from between the bed and cab. It is actually cooler in the cab with it closed. I've wondered if others have the same issue.

I have this style in my truck. I love the extra cooling, but not crazy about the look. Its not original... I painted the frame flat black to help it blend in.

Here's mine, not sure of the age or brand or if I'm even going to keep it. Man is the glass dirty!

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

I have the sliding rear window in my daily driver Tacoma. It really is nice on a hot day.

I do agree though with others comments that these windows "don't look right" on our trucks. To me the small back window screams "hot rod" and the sliding windows somehow takes away from that look?

What would be way cool would be a roll down back window. Best of both worlds.

ALL of these trucks of this era are the easiest to break into sliding window or not.

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

A basic jimmy and the lock pops... a screw driver and yer in through the vent window... you can prolly bust the lock with a screwdriver and a hammer. Yes, I've known some shady people, tow truck drivers and a lock smith or two.

Leadfoot Lambert : from what I have read that one single pane sliding glass that sticks into the cab like yours is a OEM/Dealer installed dealie, but I don't have confirmation on that.

That one looks good in the picture with the very thin black frame. Does yours look like that? Maybe post up a photo?

All the others seem to have the big thick frames.

That looks so much better than the thick version I'd actually consider putting one in my truck. Any problems with leakage?

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

I have never had an issue with it leaking and its been in about 13 years.

I seem to remember buying it from Pepboy's.

Agreed, much better! The black coating on the frame makes it blend in better than a raw aluminum frame.

Just seems like you loose a lot of valuable "visible glass" due to the frame.

For comparison....

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

I have had this truck for decades and after driving it for years with the stock window I didn't notice any loss of vision by switching to the slider.

And my old dog loved being able to stick his head in the cab and listen to the tunes.

Seriously, someone here needs to design a roll-up one piece window..that'd sell like hotcakes! factory style w/ a roll down option...YES!

Re: small back window, sliding glass options?

Blue Blood - when most people go that custom, they put AC in too... so...

However, I did see some fab work pictures once on a guy who put in a slide up and down window regulator from a late model SUV tail gate in the spot of his big back window. I never saw the pics of the completed truck tho'.
