What should I do?? Zinc coated roters one black one silver

I ordered new breaks and roters for my truck and they keep sending me the wrong thing!! Of course both providers are saying these roters are zinc covered. however one set of roters is shiny silver and the other is black. How can I make these match? Im sick of sending things back and everyone sending me the wrong stuff.

You could paint over the silver zinc coating to match the black (or vice versa). My choice would be sending them back for the correct stuff you ordered.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Yea the black wears off.. only where the break pad hits. So it will leave everything else black. I was thinking about having the other one powdercoated black.

If those were/are L/R for the front, one is incorrect & needs to be returned.

paint the silver one black and run them, the black will wear off both rotors leaving them black only in the cross drilled/slotted sections and snout.

Although I would not want to pay good money for a brake setup in which the rotos are different part #'s

Re: What should I do?? Zinc coated roters one black one silver

The rotors you have there first the black rotor is not black paint at all. They call that a e-coating process they do in house at Wilwood.

The rotor you have that is zinc washed you can still get those from wilwood but they do charge more for this style of rotor. The company you made the purchase thru should know this and I am sure you can get this changed out if they want to do this for you.

The e-coated black rotor you have will come off where the brake pad rides against and will get shinner overtime.Does not look bad at all.

Also keep in mind when anybody places wilwood brake orders they all come with the e-coated rotor.

The supplier should know that beacuse wilwood made this change around 2 years ago.
They said they made the change so they could save money on the cost difference between the two differnt coatings.

Hopefully this helps you out on getting your rotors taking care of .

Re: What should I do?? Zinc coated roters one black one silver

This is front and rear. The shiny one is the front and the black one is the rear. The rear is a direct order from wilwood. Wilwood didn't offer a front roter for my truck since I am NOT doing a drop spindle. So I had to go with something else other than wilwood for the roter. However... wilwood does offer a bolt on caliper for a non drop spindle. So this is what I went with.... the company I ordered the front setup didn't offer the black roters. So I have to compromise.

Would it be as easy as just spraying the whole roter? Will that mess up my roters or pads when ever I go to use them?

The roters match up pretty well. I just need the fronts to look black.

Re: What should I do?? Zinc coated roters one black one silver

I would just paint the fronts.

I like to tape up the majority of the flat pad contact surface before painting (doesn't have to be perfect). Once they're painted, I remove the tape. Then I'll install the rotors on the spindles. Using a shop towel wet w/paint thinner, I spin the rotor & only remove the paint where the pads would contact the rotor surface. By spinning the rotor & holding the rag firmly against the surface, you can get a nice, clean paint line that's pretty consistent (good enough for the local cruise atmosphere). Don't get paint on the bearing races either....

You can also let the brake pads remove the excess. I did that before but didn't like the amount of driving time it took to get the surface consistent.
