Windshield gasket question

I got a new gasket for the windshield....it has a funky lip on about 1/3 of it. Where does this lip go??? Bottom inside?

Re: Windshield gasket question

the part with the trimmed off edge goes inside at the bottom. search youtube for pickup windshield install, there's a video of a guy doing it. use the rope trick, but go slow. be sure it's centered, work the bottom in, back and down.

Re: Windshield gasket question

here's a few of the tools I used. Be careful with the metal hook tools, use them between the metal and the rubber, be extremely careful about using them between the rubber and the glass.

Re: Windshield gasket question

I would not use any thing metal at all, if you use metal on the metal side you may scratch it and then the rust will start.
The extra slot is most likely for a chrome or stainless steel windshield moulding.

Re: Windshield gasket question

The extra slot is NOT for the chrome trim. You list a '54 Chevy truck in your sig line so I'm assuming that. The '54 has a groove on the outside for a chrome trim IF you order it that way, just like the other trucks.

If you are looking at it, there is a thicker part at the bottom that the vent trim sits on and a thinner part at the top (at least in our truck!!)

Re: Windshield gasket question

Thanks all..........I will get a picture of what I am talking about........it is not what is mentioned above. On the gasket I got there is an EXTRA flap of rubber about 3/4 inch wide and it runs about the width of the glass. It is definatley for the top or bottom inside or out.

Re: Windshield gasket question

I am told the extra flap of rubber goes on the inside and runs up both side and across the top. I will get a picture tomorrow.

Re: Windshield gasket question

Ours is mounted on the inside and runs upside down to yours! I used the old gasket as a template and put it on the same way. It would make sense to me that it is in the top to hold the headliner in but the truck I compared to looked like it was original so I did it the same way.

Re: Windshield gasket question

My truck had the original glass and rubber, the trimmed off part of the flap was on the inside at the bottom. Might have had something to do with the defroster ducts.

Re: Windshield gasket question

I thought that would be the case as well but the truck I compared it to was upside down!

Re: Windshield gasket question

Here are some pictures of the "flap". So far we have confirmed it goes on the inside but still mixed opinions on top and sides or bottom and sides. Any more opinions? I am leaning toward the top and sides because there is a screw down trim piece that goes at the bottom and not on the sides or top.??

Re: Windshield gasket question

Task force mode, means thinking its a Task Force truck.

I keep forgetting theres AD's here too. AD is Advance Design.

54 would be an AD.
