Wipers slow
My wipers are supper slow even on high speed. Its an 87. The windshield has no water on it. I think I need a new motor. I put a new motor on a 69, and they really worked fast with no water on the windshield. If I have to drive in the rain I don't think they will work very. What do you think.

Re: Wipers slow
I just replaced the wiper motor on my '79 and I'm so glad I did. It does sound like your wiper motor is dying a slow painful death. They're not terribly expensive and simple to replace. With the motor and wiper blade assembly, I find myself praying for rain:-)

Re: Wipers slow
The wipers on my '74 have 2 speeds: slow and slower, wet or dry. I think that's the way they were designed. One of the things Chevy did that do not impress me. I try to stay out of big rainstorms.

Re: Wipers slow
Your wipers are going to run a tad slower when the glass is dry. It will also burn your wiper out faster and ruin your blades pretty quickly.
Wiper motors are cheap though, as are new blades.

Re: Wipers slow
They slow down as they get older due to aging grease inside for the most part and due to corrosion on the grounding. Some is worn brushes and motor contact area corrosion.
Pulling it off and cleaning all the contacts & ground surfaces will help a bit. Pulling it apart and cleaning it out & re-greasing it will help too. Same goes for power window motors as well. Much of the reman stuff and re-pops are not worth their weight in scrap metal.
