I need to replace the float on my carb. Can I just pull the top off of the carb to replace it or do I need to pull the whole carb?

If i remeber right on those carbs you need to take it off to replace it.

Well if you lived closer to me i could sell you a holley i have all it needs is a rebuild of gaskets it leaks fuel but it runs great.

how in the hell do you take these things off? My carb kit doesn't show me how to remove it from the intake. I tried taking it off but there are so many screws I don't know whats keeping it on the intake.

There should be four bolts on the base of the carb to the intake two up front two in the back make sure to unhook linkage and wires if you have electric choke.

Do the bolt threads stick up or down? If they stick up then I found two of them but if they stick down I've got some huntin to do.

Some are mounted on studs which you will need to take the nuts off they stick up. and some are bolts that go down. they should be pretty easy to find.

ok. Then I found the back two. I need to try to get the front ones. My fuel line was stuck on so I'm gonna have to work on it tomorrow after school. This is only a four day week so I can start rebuilding it friday morning.

If you found the rear ones they should just be opposite the rears up front. Ya those fuel lines can get stuck there a pain.lol good luck hope you get it fixed.

get a Q-Jet rebuild manaul and a rebuild kit, and go to town on your carb. you'll be MUCH happier with a Jet than a toilet bowl Holley.

Ok I'm freakin stupid. I found the bolts they were right in front of me the whole time.

I took it apart and replaced the float but I need to get some solvent and soak the carb in a bucket. There was lots of grime and little pieces of stuff all in the carb. down at the bottom of the carb was some really strange lookin stuff. It looked like rubber cement but it was solid black some of it was rock hard but some was squishie. Hopefully I should be able to get it done this weekend if I dont mess anything up.

You had some stuff inside the carb. thats probably why it wasnt running very well. one reason anyways.

man you have lost your mind. i too was once fooled by that salesman hype. but no more. a q-jet to anyone that knows carbs, is the best carb ever made by anyone. the only reason people like other carbs is that they say is bolt on and go. yea right.

save you some money. rebuild the thing, maybe rebush it. tune it right and you will think you got fuel injection. i promise.

Is this a track truck? I doubt it. I'd highly suggest putting an edelbrock carb onto the truck if you plan to drive it around town. Having messed with hollies a time or three, they are just not worth it - unless you are running the car/truck down the track all the time.

Just my thoughts.

PS Q-jets are a pain, advise from my local mechanic buddy was to throw it away and save up for a new carb, they are a major PITA unless you've rebuilt them before that is.

why is everybody so afraid of these things? it is far superior to and Holley or AFB carb out there. you want milage? the small primaries make for great milage, and throttle response. you want top end performance? kick in the massive secondaries.

i think what it is is that 90% of the people who say to throw it away dont like to think. they want to throw some no-brainer carb on there(AFB) and go. use your noodle a lil bit, and your truck will thank you!

I'll take any Quadra-jet anybody wants to throw my way. I love that carb and its allways great to have free spare parts. It is very easy to rebuild and I want a spare carb to do some performance mods on.

My truck runs great with the q jet I have on it. Took awhile to dial it in but once I got it set it screams.

I agree, I like the Q-Jets. Simple to rebuild, and if you know your stuff about tuning one, you can't beat the mileage and at the same time the wide open power. And they don't make a better off road carb than a Q-Jet period.

Well when i bought my truck it had a holley gas leaker. so i had no choice but to go with edelbrock.
