327 Rebuild? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have decided that I want to rebuild my numbers matching 327 engine that my 68 has.

So my question is, I have been seeing these rebuild kits offered by jegs and summit racing, are they any good?

The Summit parts I've gotten were good stuff. Clevite, Melling, Speed-Pro, and Felrpo.

PAW only deals with Hemi engines now. Nothing else.

I have always got my engine kits from my machinist. That way I'm getting them local too.

Next question then is, does anyone know of a good machine shop in Arizona? I want the good, honest work, so I only have to do this once.

Here is what I did to my 327 a few months ago, turned out pretty good. The article said it would produce 345 hp and 375 ft-lb torque. I bored it .040 over and used keith black inverted dome pistons. Cost me around 3k, did most of the assembly my self.

My 327 is .40 over, forged TRW pistons 10.5 to 1, Steel Crank, World Torquer heads, Edelbrock performer RPM cam. Noisy Pete Jackson gear drive. Merlin oil pump, Edelbrock Fuel pump. Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. MSD distributer, MSD 6A ignition and roller tip rocker. For those the build engine you will know that this was an old rebuild because TRW is no longer around. I too purchased my rebuild kit from PAW. It is a shame that they only do HEMIs now.

I used to use Summit Racing and Jegs but of late I have been getting stuff from www.kmjent.com as they have some of the best prices on name brand pistons/rings and bearings. Cams are from Howard but some of the ign/heads/oiling system parts are from Pro Comp and made in china. I have been trying some of their intake manifolds and ign stuff, I have 1 yr and so far so good, but I still do not endorse the chinese stuff. Check out the website, I can tell you the customer service is first rate, returns are no problem and you don't get all the mailings from them.

As long as werre showing off 327's,, here's the original 327 that came in my ElCamino,, umm well Ok the block, forged crank and small journal rods are original. Changed a few other things/
