Control arm help

I have a cracked lower control arm on the right side lower and I was wondering if 73-87 lower control arms could be swaped into a 1963
2wd 1/2 ton without changing the cradle.

Re: Control arm help

No... they are not a replacement part for the '63. Use different bushings and ball joints.

Re: Control arm help

You can use those if your '63 is a C10, and you are switching to disc brakes at the same time. If you are staying with drum brakes, you will need a LCA from a '63-'72 C10.

Re: Control arm help

Thanks for the help, but I have another question.
If I go with the 73-87 lower control arms and 73-87 spindles, do I have to change the upper ball joints as well to match the newer spindles?

Yes, the 73-87 balljoints I believe have a larger stud, but if they have been replaced in your uppers already, they bolt in, so no big job. The balljoints must match your spindles....

Re: Control arm help

Why not change the upper control arms to the '73-'87 style also? That way you have the same style control arm bushings on all control arms. Also there is a chance that the ball joints are useable. Of course it is a good idea to replace the ball joints while it is appart, but if you're on a budget, that would get you by for a while.

Oh, and if you change to the '73-'87 LCA's, drill out the holes in your crossmember and use the larger diameter '73-'87 LCA shaft U-bolts.
