Metal floor vs wood floor?
Are the only differences between the metal floor and wood floor boxes the cab side of the box?
Also is there a thread somewhere that shows how to make your own wood slats factory style? Can you tell Ive never owned a wood floor box?

The cross sills are different I believe going from a steel bed to wood bed and GMC Pauls has bed wood sizes if you are making your own heres the link http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm hope this helps you

Re: Metal floor vs wood floor?
You said it. 8 years ago I cut some 3/4 inch plywood, flopped it on top of the wood bed and screwed it down (several planks had broken/rotted over the decades). Now, I'm absolutely going to build me a proper oak bed, particularly since all the metal hardware is still there!

Re: Metal floor vs wood floor?
bedsides are the same, front panel is different...
then you have the steel floor... or the wood floor with all of the cross sills, rear sill, wood and metal strips that hold the wood to the cross sills... Mar-K has a good diagram on their online catalog.. http://www.mar-k.com/Catalog/catalog.aspx

Re: Metal floor vs wood floor?
So front panel and metal strips, I sorta knew. But the cross sills I had no idea.
Since I never considered a wood bed for any thing, Ive never noticed the sills for sale on the board. Do we ever see a complete set of those here, and what do you guys think the average cost would be for a set of the cross and rear sill?

Re: Metal floor vs wood floor?
I found a complete set at Carlisle for $125, The back one is what costs the most...
Mar-K has free shipping, their is also a "reinforcement strip" which is sorta like a mini-cross sill... They also have an adapter piece for the front panel to go from metal to wood, this keeps you from having to replace the entire piece...
