Re: Removing a SM465 shift lever
If I remember correctly you push down on the round cover at the base of the shifter and turn it a quarter turn. Chris

Re: Removing a SM465 shift lever
Push down on the coller with a pair of vise grips & turn it 30 degrees counter clockwise. It should come right out.

Re: Removing a SM465 shift lever
Bryan, there is a metal collar around shifter, push it down and turn it counter clockwise, and it should release. Only needs to go like a quarter turn

I always put it neutral first, makes it easier going back.

Re: Removing a SM465 shift lever
Thanks a bunch you guys. Once I cleaned up the top better I could see the groove where that collar seated. Just used my gigoondo channel lock pliers & she turned a little then a wiggle on the stick got everything to pop loose & up. Appreciate the fast responses cuz they were also spot on!!
Got the 292/4spd about ready to pull now - front is open & all the connections are free.
