How much Paint?

I am going to paint our 65 GMC longbed in about 3 weeks and I am starting to question if I have enough color and clear. I have a gallon of PPG DBC2000 that is mixed 1 to 1 (so that is 2 gallons). I have a gallon of PPG DCU2002 that is mixed 4 to 1 to 1 (so that is about 1.5 gallons).

The jams and firewall are already painted. I need to paint the entire perimeter of the truck, inside bed walls , and under hood.

So, you experienced paint guys...is that enough to shoot 3 base coats and 3 clears?

Paint store guy said "yes", but it would be bad news if I ran out.

Thanks!

Re: How much Paint?

I used 6 qts of paint mixed 2:1= 9 sprayable quarts to paint my long bed. I didnt paint under the hood or the inside of the bed or the ceiling and inside back wall inside the cab. Also I didnt paint the grille, if I would have painted all those things I would have ran out. The dash and the back of the cab between the cab and box only got 2 coats and one coat of clear.
As far as your clear goes mixed 4:1, you dont have enough to put 3 coats on. With what I had for clear, which is the same as you I could only get 2 coats on it. If you get some sealer and use that, your color will cover better and will go farther. By the way, youll need about 3 qts of sealer to cover what your going to spray. This is all fresh in my mind because I just sprayed mine this past Saturday. Hope this helps and good luck!! Also I was using Sherwin williams "cross fire" paint and Acme clear coat.

Re: How much Paint?

a lot depends on the color, we made a custom green from the original light green. It was pretty transparent, we painted with a white primer sealer and it took 3 coats of color and 2 coats of clear. I used 2 gallons of color PPG (total of 4 mixed gallons) and probably 1.5 gallons of polyurethane clear . since we have screwed up once on the cab and had to reshoot (fish eyes) and we have shot in stages we have used more paint. Here is what it looks like today ,

We are shooting the bed and the fenders tomorrow in the am (cool and low humidity) I estimated what it will take for the pick up bed and fenders. since we were shooting all the parts individually we probably used way too much paint.
