Front spindle question
Hello everyone. I will be starting my build in a few weeks. I have a 94 chevy model Chayanne that is pretty basic. I have a set of spindles for the front that I got from a friend about 11 years ago. I have recently started doing some reasearch and found that some spindles are for rotors that are 1" and 1 1/4" thick. I am assuming they mean thick. How can I tell which spindles I have? I don't remember the make since it has been so long. I am hoping that they will fit my truck.

Re: Front spindle question
Measure the diameter of the spindle where the rear bearing rides. If it is
1.378" it is for the heavy duty brakes. You will be fine. Last edited by Richie; 06-22-2011 at 08:43 PM. |

I am assuming that the heavy duty breaks take the thicker rotor. If It is something different then that size will I have to get different rotors for them to work. Would the calipers work on a different size rotor? I am new to this so thanks for the quick answers. I will have many more questions. |

Re: Front spindle question
The smaller diameter spindles were used on '88-'91 regular cabs. '92-'98 regular cabs and all '88-'98 extended cabs should have the heavy-duty spindles/rotors.
If it turns out that you have the wrong size spindle for your rotors, you can replace the rotors and bearings to match and your calipers and pads will still work. |

Re: Front spindle question
Just to save somone else the trouble......If you have 88-91 light duty brakes and you upgrade to the heavy duty spindles, you need the rotors, bearings, seals AND the heavy duty calipers/pads.The light duty calipers are about 1/4" narrower across the pad area and will not go over a heavy duty rotor.Light duty calipers have 2-1/2" piston cups and heavy duty claipers have 2-15/16" piston cups. The pads are different too where the clips are on the back.I just went through this fiasco.(If you had heavy duty brakes and went to light duty spindles, the heavy duty calipers/pads would probably work fine on the light duty rotor.)

Re: Front spindle question
Interesting. I've always been told the calipers and pads would still work.
