Re: steering box
I got one from Checker and it was pretty crappy. I replaced it when O'Reilly bought Checker and this one seems pretty decent.
I'd take a look at the rag joint while you're taking the box out. |

Re: steering box
Redhead steering box. Very well liked among the board. Just received my box yesterday. Ordered on Thursday.

Re: steering box
Replace both the high and low pressure hoses while you are at it. They are cheap compared to the steering box.
I had a bad experience (got loose after about one year) with a steering box from Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts. Currently I have a steering box rebuilt by a local guy which is great. I had him convert it to fast ratio while he was in it. I can provide you his contact information if you are interested.

Replace the pump too... it's only a few bucks more and you end up with 100% new box, pump and lines.... Last edited by mcmlxix; 06-30-2011 at 09:10 AM. |

Re: steering box
I'll put in a third vote for Redhead. You can order from them directly. I was also planning on going with crossover steering and since I only have about 2,000 miles on my steering gear from them I didn't want to buy a whole new 2wd unit. They said I could send them my 4wd unit back and they would swap out the pitman shaft for a 2wd one for the cost of the part and labor which at the time was around $100 total.

Re: steering box
That's exactly what I am doing. When I go D60 front I will either have them swap sector shafts (2wd) for crossover or sell this one and get a new 2wd box.
