I will start the arguement and say no. The c-40 to c-60 cabs did however.

Re: 68 small window??

I belive Eric is right also, but it is rumored that there was left over small back window cabs used in 68.

I have also heard that the small back window was only available the first 6 months of production in 67, and was then discontinued in the 10-30 series.

....just stirring the pot.

Re: 68 small window??

theres they yes and no's on this subject.. some claim that the first 68s used 67 cabs and there fore had small windows... but i respectfully disagree, and will claim this: the government said no to small windowes and wanted markers to be added.. and was starting to ad emission controls instead of the pvc valve like 67's (at least for CA), so if those rules applied then they couldnt have been able to sell such a vehicle correct? being a 67 owner i found out how hard it is to find front and rear fenders for67 swb fleetside trucks so there is alot of 67's getting mix matched and different body panels from various years...

Re: 68 small window??

'67 was the last year for optional rear window. The option became the standard in '68.

Re: 68 small window??

if they used left over cabs from 67 then there would be 68 cabs out there with a small ignition bezel and jacks mounted on the floor instead of the side. ive never seen a 68 with those.

Does this mean you could get a big back window in 67?
If so, would this be the rarest option...

Really? Can you expand on this please?

I agree with the statement about the side markers being required but this is the first time I've heard of the small window being done away with because of legalities.

If that is the case, why were the larger trucks allowed to have small rear windows and the smaller trucks not?

the bigger trucks dont have very good sight through the rear windows because of how they are tall chunky but most of all what beds might be put on them with whatever covers the window so having a small or big window still wouldnt help, smaller trucks are lower not very chunky and most of them had regular beds, so having big windows on light duty trucks is alot more pratical then having it on a medium or heavy duty trucks

theres alot of truck and stuff behind your cab that doesnt help with site correct? if it was higher or taller of a truck like the c40 to c60 with those huge side mirrors they put on it would be just about the same or better for sight correct?

I know how a small window works ... I wanted to know where you got the idea that small windows on 1/2 ton pick up trucks were outlawed by the "gubment" ...

Re: 68 small window??

alot of new rules came into effect in 1968. I suspect that the small window trucks could not pass the rearview performance test that was to come into effect 1-1-68.

Standard No. 111 - Rearview Mirrors - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, Buses, School Buses and Motorcycles
(Effective 1-1-68)
This standard specifies requirements for the performance and location of inside and outside rearview mirrors. Its purpose is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries that occur when the driver of a motor vehicle does not have a clear and reasonably unobstructed view to the rear.

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/fmvss/index.html

This just speculation, but I don't know of any other make with small rear windows in 1968 either.

It's likely that the heavier trucks were not held to the same safety standards as light trucks, as is the case today.
