Best way to cut steel braided line?

Haven't worked with it in a while and I prefer the stock black hose look but I'm doing my race car in it. Can't remember the best way to cut it. Seems like you wrap it very tight with electrical or comparable tape and then cut. But what with? I have cut off wheels. Are those best? What about mama's ginsu knife?

Wrap it in electrical tape and use to cut off wheel to cut it as quickly as possible to minimize fraying. Clamp it in a vise just enough to hold it steady.

I wrap with masking tape and cut with dremel cutoff or fine tooth hacksaw. I also have used a cable cutter but it compresses the hose.

We used to wrap it and use a cut off tool. We still do but we also sell these kits from Koul Tools

On my teflon hose I wrapped with masking tape then used a sharp 2" chisel and 3lb hammer. Squished the hose a little, nothing a pair of pliers didn't cure. Worked great for me.

Am I the only one that loves using a cutoff wheel in the summer with shorts??? First thing I always do is to remove the safety guard and leave it off. Unlike my air cutoff, that Dwalt spins something fierce and always gets me thinking what would happen if it slipped and went into my thigh.........

(I was going to post a pic of a deep thigh wound off the internet but started to get sick to my stomach when I was looking at them. I think I'll just use scissors!)

Yup you don't need to post a pic for me. I've seen it in person. Cut fast and deep.
The young guy (not me) didn't even know it happened. He was off work for 6 months.

A tip. Once you get your hose built flush it out real good. THose fine metal wires could cause you greif for awhile. A missed one once. Drove me crazy trying to find what caused my off and on flooding problem.

Wrap with electrical tape and use a cut off wheel and make sure to rinse with water and blow out with compressed air real good so you don't end up with rubber and steel in your carb or whatever your using it on

This is how I have always done it (not quite so big of a hammer though) with steel braided line. Make sure the chisel is sharp with no burrs.

I found placing a hose clamp on both sides of the cut worked better than tape.

Hmmm.....that's quite interesting and makes a heck of a lot of sense!

I had to come back and edit this though.....once you are done and take the clamps off, doesn't it fray all over the place??

For me, it frayed less. I haven't done a lot of stainless hose. But this worked for the fuel system on my bracket Dart.

those are just standard cable cutters marketed as hose cutters but they do work. i have even used paper cutters but they can dull out quick

tape of your choice wrapped tight.Use a cutoff wheel. Make sure to clean the hose out both the rubber and piece of steel play hell with needle and seat assemblies.
