power heated mirrors

I have a 96 suburban with power mirrors, I would like them heated.
I believe 99 trucks had heated mirrors, what year did they start?
Has anyone added heated mirrors? What is involved?
I have rear defrost in the Burb.
Thank you

Re: power heated mirrors

I have electric mirrors on my GMC. They're not heated, tho. My wifes' car (98 Lexus) has heated mirrors, but I don't know what triggers 'em to heat. We have school buses with heated mirrors and with power mirrors, and some with heated/power mirrors.

In all cases, there must be a thermostat (electric) that triggers the heat function. It may be tied to the defrost, but I'm not certain.

If you know the '99's could be had with heat/power...then there's your starting point. Wish I could help, but I can't.

I usually just spray mine with some Prestone deicer....the spray bottle kind, not the aerosol can. Stock up on it when it hits the stores in late summer/early fall, it's the best deicer I've found.

Re: power heated mirrors

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the '99-'00 Escalade/Denali could be had with heated mirrors. If so, then those would be a bolt-on swap since they're still based on the GMT-400 bodystyle.

Re: power heated mirrors

Thanks for the insight. A guy I work with has a '99 Tahoe with heated mirrors he sez they come on with the rear defrost. That Prestone stuff in a spray bottle, kept warm in the house, will take frost off the truck windows too!

Right. That's pretty much the standard switch for heated mirrors.

Re: power heated mirrors

did some research on line, looking at owners manuals. '98 is the first year that heated mirrors are in the manuals. So now we know which years they came on! I guess that is a start. I think the RPO is DL8.

Do you have a link to the owners manuals? I would like to read them also.

Re: power heated mirrors

I googled owners manuals and found this one that has all kind of manuals, you have to navigate through a few pages, but the manuals are there. and once you get to the year you are looking for you can search a topic. Rather nice! www.manualowl.com
