Removing emission stuff?

I've had an 86 Silverado for a few months now, and being that this is the 25 year mark for it and it's exempt, I'd like to ditch the emissions stuff. I'm in no fear of emissions year roll-backs or any hoo-ha like that, and I have general disdain for Mr. Law to begin with, so advice against breaking federal laws or whatnot is moot.
It had been running a little goofy lately, and I'd like to just simplify it all. The question is, with a seemingly stock 305, what should I take off or re-route to get the best performance out of it? Are there any write-ups on this anywhere? I'm mostly unclear as to whether or not I need to switch the carb to an Edelbrock or something, or if I can just plug the inlets on the factory carb.
Yes, I'd love to put in a cam, headers, intake, and carb, but it's just the simple truck. I have another one for that! Thanks!!

Re: Removing emission stuff?

hey, I did it on my 84 with a 305, I just plugged the unused vacuum ports on my stock carb. removed the smog pump, plugged the holes in the stock manifolds and removed every vacuum lines except from my distributer, egr valve and transmission.

Also if you have a/c leave those vacuum lines. But it's exactly how broey says

Re: Removing emission stuff?

yeah it really is. I bought an assorted vacuum plug kit from autozone for like 4 bucks and and some plugs from ace hardware for the holes in the manifold. thats all I needed.

Re: Removing emission stuff?

what about cruise control, would that be affected if you remove the vacuum lines? i swapped out my stock air filter cover and replaced with a cheapy chrome Mr. Gasket one and my cruise con. stopped working, so now im too scared to remove any other lines.

Re: Removing emission stuff?

if you have cruise control you will have to have a vacuum like connected to it still. I removed my cruise control on account of how ugly it is..lol
