Re: transmission cooler location....ad pickup
Think of transcooler as a condensor or radiator, the more air flow the better to disspate heat. Transmissions cooler are used for this purpose, heat dissapation is the biggest concern on life expectancy of tranny. If the location has good air flow than put it there if obstructed mount mount a small fan on top.

Re: transmission cooler location....ad pickup
My dad just mounted one in his Nova (limited space) right behind the radiator with some aluminum straps across the core support opening. It has good clearance all the way around and plenty of airflow from the puller fan. I'm going to try that location next time.

Re: transmission cooler location....ad pickup
When you say in the inner fender, do you mean cut a hole or just mount it in front of the inner fender behind the grille? If it's in front, I think you would have a lot of turbulence and not a lot of air flow there. If you cut a hole, that may work but I'd want some sort of gravel guard so the tire doesn't throw rocks at it.
