I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

So fixing up the c10 I recently acquired and while inspection the rear which the previous owner swapped in I noticed that there were no rear parking brake cables going into the assemblies. Nor is the adjustment bracket under the bed.

I can find the cables online but I need the whole assembly. From mid cab back to the adjuster, all the way to each hub.

Any ideas guys? Can other year Chevy parking brake components be used? Are the adjusters basically the same assembly? Any problems buying these parts used?

Thanks!

to the boards Low & Slow from NC.....might want to look over in the parts forum...guys parting trucks over there could probably help ya out.....is your truck a long or short bed? (this will determine the intermediate cable needed)....also, if ya want new, ww.inlinetube.com has a setup, but it's pricey

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

Thanks for the warm welcome sir!

Yes, it is a longbed. How do I go about locating the for sale section? Pardon my ignorance, brand new to trucks. In fact, brand new to anything older than 1988. It's been fun so far! Lots of surprises.......

The brand new master cylinder started weeping from the booster mating surface for some reason.

What year truck do you have? There's a difference in the '67-8's compared to the '69-72's.

it is a 67.

Spent hours last week in the local junkyard attempting to track down another 67-68. No luck.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

....sorry....I thought you may know where the parts forum is...if you're married, tell her it's my fault that I posted this....and beware....you'll spend HOURS in here looking for parts!!!! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Also, here's a diagram I like to post up for e-brake stuff...it's pretty helpful

As ChevloRay mentioned, the difference between 67/68 and 69-72 is that the 67-68 has a hand pulled ebrake, while the 69-72 has a foot operated ebrake...so the line exiting the firewall will be different locations....but after that it's pretty much the same for 67-72 (the areas highlighted in red)

So no luck with the marketplace. Any more ideas?

Year one would cost me something around $175 which is nuts. This is all I need to pass inspection I've managed to button up all the other issues.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

I just installed a set of cables on my 68 but I had the hardware already. I bought mine off LMC I had a problem with a lot of play where the cable inserts into the rear backing plate(?) I used the small springy washer from the original cables on the outside and then right behind still on the out side I use a large flat washer to take up the slack and all is good i didnt pass inspection cause I hadnt replaced them yet, they were sitting on my floor for months

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

My '68 cab doesn't have an ebrake handle. I have the one that was in my '69 cab, but it won't work without some sheet metal modification....and I can't do it.

So, for me (at least) it looks like Lokar is going to get a little bit more of my money...next time I go to take a dump.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

Your local auto parts store, and/or rockauto.com should have the cables. Too many of us buy stuff from specialty vendors when the parts are readily available locally. Its part of the learning process.

There are a few guys that part trucks regularly that post in the parts areas. No doubt they'll have the hardware but there may not be specific for sale posts.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

Went into my local autozone looking for the rear diff seal with the intent of changing fluids. Ended up asking the clerk for the cables out of curisosity and they have them! $15 for each side. Plus $20 for mid cable. Only problem was that he had 3 sizes. SWB, LWB, and then a 133" wheel base.

Still need the brackets and all but Im assuming that with a 8' bed/ lwb I need the 127" cables right?

They had to be ordered but will be at the local store in a few days.

correct...you'll need one for your lwb truck so 127" is right...just to be sure, if your SPID is still in the glovebox, it should have the wheelbase listed on the top right

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

So I went to pickup my cables at autozone today as they were a special order and I was told they would be in today. Got there on my lunch and was told they were actually discontinued by Wagner.

Crap. Back to square 1.

Ill try Shorty and Daves next I suppose.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

So I found the Intermediate and both rear hub cables for $42 shipped. Im just a little confused with what connectors I need. Is there a specific Y connector to join the rear hub cables to the intermediate?

Rockauto has the one to one cable connectors but nothing that would join the rear to the inter.

Ideas as to where to source this?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Look in my post #6 above....view A shows the part needed....again...I recommend asking someone who's parting a truck over in our parts forum....you'll need 2

better yet, you could become a member and post a want to buy (WTB) in the parts forum...it's the membership that keeps on giving and giving

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

Saw the diagram but was spittle confused. It looks like the hand brake cable is in white coming down out of the cab and then joins with the red hub cables. But what's that red cable that goes forward? That is throwing me off.

I have some feelers out right now with some members but most want more thn the cost of brand new.

Re: I need the parking brake cable/ brackets/ adjusting bracket. Where to buy?

once it comes out of the firewall, it connects to a solid rod that has a u type clip on it for adjustment....the intermediate cable is then routed to both rear brake cables (the u-shaped red cable) and connected by that clip in view A.....there is also a solid rod that supports the cable under the passenger side and connects to the frame...I believe this this is the red item that's confusing you, right?

Could you post an update as to where you ended up getting everything and how it all went together for you. My '69 K10 SWB needs some work on the park brake assembly. I believe all the parts are there but it seems like the middle cable might be to long (not correct cable)! Someone jimmy rigged it with a long spring to take up the slack. Problem is, it only applies very little pressure to the brake, not enough to really hold it. Also, the foot pedal only returns about half way up... Broken or missing return spring? Any ideas? Sorry if I am not making much sense... been extremely sick over the last month! Thanks in advance.
