1970 C20 Longbed - suspension question

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post even though I have lurked unregistered for a long time. I registered today so I could ask for information regarding rebuilding my truck, in particular what is the process for dropping my truck down with air bags? Currently, the rear suspension is coil spring on trailing arms. I replaced the stock (huge) axle with a newer 3/4 reared.

Does anyone know the step-by-step process and parts needed front and back? I have skill with a welder and in fabrication if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Robert

Hey Robert,... WELCOME to the board.
Very nice truck.
Look around in the suspension section.
Most threads are for 1/2-ton trucks,... but bagging a 3/4-ton truck is very much the same.
There is a FAQ section that has a good thread.
(also many other good threads in the FAQ area,...

Look here for your air bag install FAQ:

Get those rear shocks mounted right ASAP!!! From the pic it looks like they are bottoming out with VERY little travel.

x2. Looks like lowering blocks are already in place as well.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: 1970 C20 Longbed - suspension question

Very observant on the shocks! I need to come up with a better arrangement all the way around because the shocks are damm near mounted diagonal with very little travel, so either shorter shocks or a whole new placement (the better choice). I am interested in putting a 4-link under it, but I dont have very much information regarding the desireability, benefits, ect. Anyone with a 4-link out there that can share info? Plus I am curious if there are air bags that you dont have to run tanks and compressor with? I dont think that I will be to interested in changing the ride height once it is set so adjustable bags would be overkill.

Thanks for the comments!
