Couple of interior questions
Just bought a 91 suburban for my tbi swap and it has a few other parts I can use on my build. So far the headliner which also has the overhead console, and the top half of the dash. Question is how can I remove and mount the bracket for the over head console and how do I remove the top of the dash the soft half ?

The dash has screws all across the bottom of the pad, and if I remember correctly one on each end. Plus you need to take the gauge bezel out too.

Re: Couple of interior questions
I used some 1" self tapping screws with the washers that have rubber on one side. Ran 'em thru the bracket and into the braces on the roof. Mine isn't screwed in into the exact same location as stock, but it's pretty close, and it's completely secure.
I can snap pics sometime this week if you would like. Gotta redo the headliner so the console has to come back off.

Re: Couple of interior questions
Please do pictures are worth a thousand words. My headliner isn't down yet but I was wondering if trucks that left the factory without overhead consoles had the same brackets in the roof as those that did.

Re: Couple of interior questions
The brackets are only on trucks with the console. The contour of the brackets would push a stock headliner without the cutout for a console down farther, and would create a "bubble" in that section of the headliner.

Re: Couple of interior questions
So if they didn't have the brackets in them how do I go about mounting the console in my truck ?

Re: Couple of interior questions
Here you can see the contour I was talking about:
This is how I mounted the front of the bracket: How I mounted the middle: How I mounted the rear: AS you can see....all but the front screw were screwed in right next to where the bracket was originally mounted with rivets.

Re: Couple of interior questions
Or if you've got a rivet gun just get the right size rivets and line the bracket up with the holes that are already up on the ceiling and roof ribs 3 minutes later...TADAA!!!! As for the headliner, If the interior's the same color as yours, just swap them out. If not, you take both headliners out and lay the consoled cutout one on top of your original, trace out the 3 openings with a marker then using a utility knife with a fresh sharp blade slowly and methodically cut out the openings going through the liner in layers all around. Makes for a better looking finished product.

Re: Couple of interior questions
Definitely an option. I have a rivet gun, but picking up some self tapping screws from the hardware store was easier than trying to locate the correct size rivets.
