Door Hinge
Is it better to repair rebuild hinges or replace. What brands are best oem or aftermarket any info would be appreciated.

Re: Door Hinge
If it is only pins that need replaced (usually so), I would rebuild. If there are other problems, I would go to a junk yard and find some to put new pins in.

Re: Door Hinge
If you rebuild the hinges, don't get Dorman aftermarket pins - the heads are too big and won't seat into the hinge (see my other recent post). GM pins and bushings are still available (see Randy's response to my other post.) Retail cost is about $6 for 1 pin and 2 bushings from GM.
I am in the process of installing new pins and bushings, and will post some pics and my experience in a week or two (when I get the GM pins and install them), so you might want to wait to see what is involved. I am doing it bubba style with no hoist, just a 2x4 brace to support the door from the bottom. If an incompetent amateur like me gets it done, then I think anybody could. I think the only reason for new hinges is if the holes for the hinge pins are worn out (and Randy has a fix for that too). This would happen with a lot of use which wore out the bushings completely and the pins were wearing on the metal of the hinge hole itself. My bushings were paper thin, but still intact, so the holes in the metal hinge look factory size. |

Re: Door Hinge
To get the body side hinges off it is a real pain you have one bolt on that sucker that is coming in from the dash side and it is hard to get to.
