You have to pull the trans.and starter. There are 3 bolts from the torque conv. to flexplate I usually use a long ext on the upper bolts to the motor, don't forget to block up the motor. Get some help if you don't have a trans jack.

Re: Flex plate - tranny bolts- need help!?!?

Couple of extensions and swivels. I did mine like this and was to lazy to pull the bolt down "hump"
I used a couple of jacks (iirc) one under the oil pan, one under the tranny pan. (blocking as needed so you don't crush the pans.) and a couple pieces of scrap all-thread to keep the trans lined up (correct size rod) I was able to slide the trans back far enough to get the old flexplate out and a new one in.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

I have some swivels and a 4 ft. extension I use to get the upper trans/engine bolts. the longer, the better. Try to use the ball-socket type of swivels instead of the u-joint kind, they're a little easier once its too far in for your hands to reach. If that fails, I've gotten the 2 top bolts from above leaning over with my head by the distributor.
