First attempt at a C10

Recently decided to leave the world of the Mustang and try something 180 degrees the other way. Sold my 2003 Kenne Bell supercharged GT and picked up a '67 C10 SWB. All goes according to plan it will be a long term project that will some day go to one of my two sons. This will be my first attempt at a Chevy so I'm sure along the way I will have countless questions. Please be kind.

Nice truck you got there, and welcome to the Board! I think you will find everything you need to know on here to get your project done quick. And, since it's a Chevy and not a F***, you can enjoy driving for many trouble-free miles!

Re: First attempt at a C10

Bought the truck Friday for $2500 for what I see as a pretty decent base... I just see the huge dents as a chance to hone my skills. Plans are for right now get the motor as reliable as possible. I'm hoping to have it as a daily driven project. Hopefully within the week I will be switching from manual brakes to power, adding some lowering springs, converting the 6 lug drums up front to 5 lug disc. Haven't decided on rims and tires as of yet however leaning towards the rally. Assuming the funds haven't been drained I'm looking to add a fuel cell for my safety. Long term goals I'm sure will change over time.

Re: First attempt at a C10

First possible setback. When purchased was told the motor was a 283 and after decoding the vin found it wasn't the original motor (originally an online 6). So I'm going over the engine to see what it could be. At the same time I'm looking at a factory hole in the back of the block just to the drivers side of the distributor. Probably close to the same diameter. Decided to run my fingers in it to see if there was any debris. Sure enough there was. From what I could tell there was a small nut in it. When I attempted to get it out it slid into a hole that is located under the intake manifold. Does this hole lead to the crank case and is just a vent? Or does this lead to the valley pan? If it goes to the crank case is my best bet to drop the oil pan? Last thing I want to do is ruin a motor less than two full days in.

Re: First attempt at a C10

It's next to the distributor but on the drivers side. I'll try and post a picture in a bit. I've been online trying to figure out what the hole is and best I can tell is a crank case vent. Then again I could be totally wrong.

Decided to name the truck. Debt. Pronounced Deb, the "T" is silent. Unlike my wife.

Re: First attempt at a C10

The seller may not have been lying to ya! that hole is for a road draftt tube found on the earlier v8s including the 283.

Id grab a magnet fish that nut out and then pound a freeze plug into the hole and call it good!!

Re: First attempt at a C10

Just ordered from ECE a 6" read drop, front 2" drop and the front disc brake kit. And while I wait on the order to be processed and then shipped I can go fishing for that damned nut.

Re: First attempt at a C10

All the parts arrived in the mail today minus the 6" read drop springs. Also my brother decided to stop by and we took the intake off and found the nut that dropped in the valley pan.

Re: First attempt at a C10

After wiring harness issues (wires going to the wrong thing, ie: electronic choke wire going to the horn) and A-arm issues (believe wrong year or model on the drivers side) I put the work on hold for a couple of months. Went back to it yesterday to lower the rear of the truck. Think it turned out nice.
