Oil pressure gauge reads "off the chart"

I've decided to try to fix one of my nagging electrical issues. My oil gauge is one of them and for a while now it reads well past full when idling and the needle practically disappears when I hit the gas. I believe the problem started when changing my wiper motor or something under the dash. Is there a ground wire or something I may have knocked loose? The truck is a 71 with a 350 and has always run fine. Anyone experienced this before and know of a remedy. Thanks.

If it is the stock gauge, that is mechanical. You could try a stock 80# gauge if you can find one.

Re: Oil pressure gauge reads "off the chart"

That's right. The only thing electrical is the light in an oil pressure gauge. There's a fitting on the back of the block near the distributor with a small tube that runs into the gauge.

Re: Oil pressure gauge reads "off the chart"

If you have a hi performance oil pump it'll pin the needle. An 80 PSI gauge from the C40-C60 trucks is just the ticket.
