Cams anyone!

I am looking to replace my 292 camshaft.
I have searched the parts houses and some speed shops.
Every one over $200.00 and too agressive. Comp cams will
do custom grid. Does someone have leads?

Re: Cams anyone!

Thanks all
I did call Summit Racing and was told they had nothing. Actually they refered me to Comp Cams and they have nothing, could pay for custom grind about $200.00.
I just want to button it up. It all started with a rear main seal replacement and things got larger from there. I could not remove the lifters so I banged them out and did not keep locations. I bought new lifters and now I read that it may be risky. Honest my cam looks O.K., I just figured I could buy a new cam for under $100.00.
My main goal is to keep her stock for now, or close to it!

Re: Cams anyone!

Why not just go back with a new 292? I assume you are talking about the comp cams 292. You can get it from Jegs for 129.99. Or if you want to go milder a 280 or 270 for the same price. You can also go with a Thumpr series for a lil more and get more of the sound with less requirements such as compression and head design.

Re: Cams anyone!

Correct a 292 engine
It is a funny thing I personally called Summit Racing and Comp Cams and explained my part request. Both parties said no to a Cam for my 292.
Should I call Summit again?

Re: Cams anyone!

I found one at Rock Auto by Sealed Power good price $100 plus.
I just can not beleive this thing started so slow. At first no parts now I am finding a few. I found Clifford and the rest but I did not want to pay so much.

Re: Cams anyone!

When ya wanna run something a little "different"... that usually means you're gonna get hit harder in the wallet for any kind of performance stuff. Heck even the stock stuff can get pricey.

Re: Cams anyone!

do not buy any cam that they say will work in a 250 ..It will not work .. 292 cams have the pump lobe in a different place and they are cut for connecting rod clearance !! if it is not 292 specific then you should pass...
