Gasoline?

Hey all, was wondering what type of gasoline you all like to run in your trucks ... 87 89 92 ect... Do you choose to use the more expensive or mid grade over regular.. And have you noticed any difference in performance.

basically .. are there any benefits to putting in mid or high grade gasoline ... for performance and maintainance ?

thanks ..
nate

Re: Gasoline?

No benefit to higher octane unless your truck/vehicle has high enough compression to require the more expensive fuel. On a basic truck, the 85/87 is adequate. Running the higher stuff will not give you any benefit other than a thinner wallet.

Re: Gasoline?

I run regular, no ethanol in everything. I have found I get about another 60 miles a tank as opposed to the other.

Re: Gasoline?

The ethanol blend also causes all kinds of problems with small engines such as weed eaters ,chainsaws and small mowers.

Re: Gasoline?

I did a number of checks in my company trucks (newer EFI stuff) and did it the only way that makes sense,, Cost per mile for fuel.

When fuel was $2.50 a gallon my 04 and newer vehicles were more economical to operate on 89 octane. Now that it's $3.50 a gallon I should check everything again, but I be the trend holds true.

Instead of dividing the miles driven by gallons used, ,,, divide the $'s to fill up by the miles driven. Try it with all 3 pump grades, and even different stations and you'll find the one most economical for your particular use. The motor (and the cost) will tell you what it likes.
