66 camper special
found this 1966 3/4 ton camper special. not running but the previous owner said all it needs is a starter and battery (yeah right). it is loaded... fac air - ps - pb - tint - turbo 400 - dual tanks - 4 core - overloads...
i know about a cool period camper that i'm checking out. it would look great in the bed. if all goes well this rig would be a good find. not wild about the wheels, needs stock 8 lug 16s and rings and caps. original color was red and white. |

Yep, definately. The '66 is the one to get, and that truck has the awesome red/white paint combination, too. I assume that it has the 327 also? If you want to see a fully loaded '66 in red/white, check out Yelmer's truck. It is incredible.

Re: 66 camper special
here's the camper. still thinking about it. really wanted one of those huge ones that goes over the cab and extends out of the back to the end of the tailgate.
but this one is pretty nice and straight and only 100 bucks. |

Re: 66 camper special
Is that for a fleetside or a stepside?

Re: 66 camper special
yaknow... i think it's both. isn't the stepside width and the distance between fleet wheel wells the same. not sure, just guessing...but the camper was on a fleet long bed before, though i didn't see it then.
so... buy or not? |

Re: 66 camper special
If the inside isn't toast, BUY IT! For a hundred bucks?... that's like the cost of a sleeping bag.

Re: 66 camper special
completely agree... will try to post pics with camper on the bed in a couple of days. and the inside isn't toast but its stuffed full with junk and 10 thousand fiddlebacks... toast would be better.

Re: 66 camper special
got her running... motor was stuck from 3 years of sitting in the weather. but a good soaking of wd for a few days and she broke loose. stopped smoking and smoothed right out. gonna fix a few electrical issues and go get that camper.
more later... by the way, i have read on here that guys are looking for a gas tank that would replace the behind the seat tank. this camper special has a second tank that is between the bed and frame right behind the cab on the drivers side. has a filler door and a cutoff switch. wouldn't this tank be the perfect model or shape to have other tanks made like. if you didn't want to give up the spare tire to have a tank in the back. just a thought. |

Cool find, and you got her running fairly easily. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: 66 camper special
here's the camper in the bed of the truck... i like the rear shot that shows the door tucked inside the tailgate and the rear roof line that is shaped like the cab roof.
with fall coming soon, time to think about hitting the woods... |

Re: 66 camper special
I drove by there this morning and it looks great with that camper on there. I see you also found a nice hood for it too. Have you thought about coordinating the side stripes in the same color when you put the side trim back on?
