How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
?
My green '68 has never had a rear view mirror, unless someone secretly switched cabs and put on a '72 cab, that is. I sure miss not having one, but am hesitant to install one where there never has been one. The PO said it had always had a slide-in camper, and the bed is in really good shape like it had been covered up for many years, but I wonder if someone special ordered no mirror.

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
The rear view mirror was an option into 69 i believe. So not very unusual.

Serious? I would have never guessed. I guess I've just never seen one without.

The '68 I had many years ago never had one either. It's not that uncommon.

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
I'm imagining someone at the Chevy Dealership in 1968:
"Whatever you do-don't put a rear-view mirror in it. That'll be a dealbreaker!"

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
I would say it's very uncommon. Who can honestly say they see trucks without the mirror option often? Not me and I've looked at a wholotta trucks.

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
My old GMC (69 short/fleet 1500) didn't come with one originally.
I suspect there were millions made (nothing to back this up, just a hunch) and when the buyer picked up his truck, and realized it didn't have one, usually went straight over to the parts counter and asked for one. This is why the 67 - 69 mirrors were inconsistant as to what style they had. |

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
I was surprised to learn this not long ago. I have a fairly long list of options on mine but an inside mirror is not one of them. Seems strange to us today but that's the way it was back then.

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
My 69 Custom 30 wrecker never had one so I'm not putting one in it.
That was bought as a cab & chassis and is a 1 ton so perhaps they didn't come with mirrors for that reason.

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
My 1969 c/20 didn't have one either. I couldn't handle not having one, so I bought one from LMC.

My '67 C-30, a '69 C-20, and '69 3500 I have never had one. I added one on my '69 C-30.

My 69 GMC didn't come with one, so I just glued one on the windshield .

Re: How unusual is never having a rear view mirror?
My '68 Stepper doesn't have one, but those huge tri-pod side mirrors work great.
