Tilt Steering In 1967 68?
Was tilt steering an option in 67 68?
If so, can someone tell me where you can buy a rebuilt steering columb for these years. The reason I ask, Is because of the diffrent shift indicator (Metal Cover / Top) on them. I will be needing one for my 67 project this summer. Thanks! Darren

Tilts were not an option until 1969. Just put one in my 68 and it bolted right in except for the intermediate shaft between the column and box which was a double D shaft instead of the splined shaft. Wiring on mine all just clipped together without any problems.

no tilt in 67-68 and early 69. but after that tilt was avaliable, so I guess you would wanna use the indicator from 70-72

Hooter / Guys,
Sorry. I'm still not clear on something...... So. Do any of the years (EI: Late 69) have tilt with the aluminun shift indicator cover? I would prefer NOT to use one from a 71 - 72 because the indicator / cover is plastic. Thanks. Darren

All tilt wheels had the metal housing. 71-72 non-tilt used the plastic one. Here is a pic of the tilt in my 68, ( Its a 72 tilt ) I polished up the housing and cleared it. Not a real good pic of it though,

Here is what I have gathered about the tilt column shift indicator housings. I have had many tilts here, some in trucks that have came through and others that are rebuilt. All to my knowledge had the pot metal housings from the factory. However GM replaced that housing with the plastic housing so that is what is offered as replacement parts and they are origanal GM. Most tilt columns that are rebuilt have the pot metal housing because they are usually unharmed and can be re-used, while the lenses are replaced. Now for the columns that have damaged housings that need replacing they will have the plastic one. GM does this with several of their replacement parts, for example: Turn signal switchs (both) the origanal has a red hassard button shaped kind of like an hour glass and has the half moon wiring plug, while the replacement has a black, screw in hazzard button and the wiring plug is flat and an adapter is needed to use it. The 72 origanal windshield mirror was either black metal, or stainless depending on the package and the GM replacements are a grainy plastic. imdarren, I have a rebuilt one with the metal housing up here in stock, however like everyone else we are awaiting the reproduction shifter levers to come in, because GM discontinued them. Matt, The seats are original, never recovered!! 52k original miles!! I did have to have the center seat (console) worked on (it was missing), it has an original insert from another seat and new skirting around the sides. The carpet is new repoduction, its called Fawn/Sandlewood (thats what the sample said). Its very close to the original color.
