3 on the tree with overdrive ?

I looked at a 69 truck that had a three on the tree with an overdrive lever under the dash.Anybody seen this before ? I was thinking about buying this truck because it has an excellent fleetside shortbed on it and parting the rest of it out.Is this a special tranny ? what is it worth ? Thanks

It is a pretty rare option. Unless you are doing a true full stock restoration on a truck with this transmission it's not very desireable.

Myself, I think it'd be cool to have one. Not many survive.

It was a fairly common option back in the day, just not many lasted. They were not very stout either.
Not many...if any parts are availible today.
I'd pass myself.

I may buy it anyway, for $1000.00 I need a bed and this truck has a rust free bed with one small dent, also has rally wheels ,307 motor ,rust free front end,the cab has good floors and rockers and cab corners and frame supports, the only major problem is the firewall,it is rusted very badly, this thing must have sat for a long time, its a shame ,very hard to find a cab with such good floors etc.. how tough is it to replace the firewall? Thanks for the feedback

If that OD is operable some consider them quite desireable as they can be retrofited onto some of the Saginaw 4 speeds to make a 4 Sp overdrive. You may have a find there.

Hey RShaips,

If you do purchase the '69, I MIGHT be interested in just the
bare cab with good paper, on the matching frame. No crash
damage, of course!
Not too far from you, and looking for a good cab, with paper, and SWB frame that all match for a V8 truck. (CE14....VIN#)
Completely stripped is fine, got the rest.
If the floor, cab supports, cab corners, etc are really solid, and the rest of the cab is nice,I might tackle a firewall swap!

Mike
