Vacuum gauge

Does anybody make a gauge re-face decal for the factory vacuum gauge?

I see them all the time for the rest of the gauges (including tach), but no reference to the vacuum gauge.

Re: Vacuum gauge

I would tend to think not. The reason being vacuum gauges apparently cannot be disassembled to be refaced or rebuilt like conventional gauges. I have an NOS Sun Vac-O-Meter with some spots inside the glass, which also reads a few pounds low. Several years ago I contacted all the aftermarket gauge rebuilders and electronic upgrade outfits, and none of them would work on a vaccum gauge.

Re: Vacuum gauge

Thanks for the reply.

Here's my situation. I had no luck finding an original truck vacuum gauge, so I did a bunch of research on GM gauges of the same era and tried to find a suitable substitute. The sweep of the needle had to be correct, and the bezel shape had to match the opening in my '64's cluster. I did not want to cut the faceplate at all, the font style had to be close, and it had to appear stock. The mid-60s Pontiac gauges seemed to be the best match, but they can be very spendy. So on a whim, I started looking at Oldsmobile gauges, and they appeared to be a good match, and they were a little cheaper than the Pontiac gauge. I wound up lucking out and getting an Oldsmobile gauge from from a '66 442 on ebay for $28. The plastic lens was cracked, the chrome cup was in fair condition, but it works good. I don't care about the lens or the cup because I'm not using them anyway. I took my cluster apart, and amazingly enough, the gauge bolted into the cluster. The only issue is that it's about 1/4" too high, and I'll have to redrill 2 holes and slot another to drop it down to fix it. The gauge looks great in the hole and the font is very close, but not an exact match if if I decide to install one of the aftermarket truck tachs.

So, that is why I am asking to see if anyone sold a re-face decal for the truck vacuum gauge. If there was enough interest in this decal, I could pay for the set-up and tooling, and sell them a very discounted price to recoup it. This decal could be an excellent option for people wanting a vacuum gauge but can't find an original one. The Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and some aftermarket gauges could be excellent candidates for this upgrade and be cost-effective, too.
