Fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers...
now, it's been a long time since I run a small block, and I am looking at swapping one in soon. I seem to remember that with the short waterr pump, having a problem with alternator to valve cover clearance. I *think* I remember having to dimple a corner on my Edelbrock signiture series covers.
I've always loved the look of the fabricated aluminum covers like this; Never had a clue they could be had so cheap. I'm looking at them not only as "pretty eye candy", but function also. Aluminum rails are less likely to leak, and that is one thing I am sick of, is oil drooling out from my engines and marking the street where I park. Can anyone tell me if I am able to run these on a small block with the short water pump and stock truck brackets? |

Marking this down on my calendar ... July 14th 2011, Longhorn Man has a question instead of an answer. Is this a sign that the end is near? =)

Re: Fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers...
Andy, the original brackets with the short water pump put the alternator quite a ways out from the valve cover. I think you will be fine.

I just went out and looked at my '70 stocker with the 350 and I have about an inch of clearance between the alt. and the valve cover. LockDoc

Re: Fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers...
hmmm, i wonder if maybe I had a too short a belt, or possibly an upper arm off of something else.
Either way... sweeeeet. Now I have to figure how many meals I'll have to skip to get these... I could stand to drop a few pounds anyways. As for CG's and the others... LMAO! I've asked a lot... just not so much the last few years. I'm sure there'll be a few more as I step back into the small block world. |

Re: Fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers...
I have a set of vintage M/T tall aluminum valve covers and they will not fit due to alternator interference. The M/T covers have squared off edges whereas the covers you have pictured have edges that are beveled, so perhaps, if they are higher than stock, they will still work.
