60-63 tach

Are the 60-63 tachs different than the 64-66 tachs? How rare are they?

Do they require the transmitter box?

They are different in that the factory tachs for '60-'63 have a different back plate for mounting into the cluster than the '64-'66 tachs.

I put a Sun (they made all the '60-'66 tachs) tach into my '63 but it started out life as a stand alone tach (column or hood mount) and made it fit my '63 cluster. It didn't require a transmitter box (the '60-'63 factory tachs need the transmitter).

I think your 63 dash is simalar to my 66 gmc, I found a old sun tach 5000 rpm, send it Williamsons in Arkansas and had new guts put in it (cost 220.00) plus the tach (85.00) on craigs list. here is what it looked like originally.

You have 63 tach? don't you have a 64? if it wont work for you I would love to buy it from you? if you don't mind selling it to me?

I own a '64, and I found a tach for sale from a '62. I wanted to see if there was a difference, because I DO NOT want to hack up a hard-to-find 60-63 tach to fit my '64. I can buy the repops for my year for around $200, so there's no reason to do that.

Plus, if word ever got out that I did that, the 60-63 guys would burn me at the stake
