Re: a newer Chevy 8.1L

It will bolt in anywhere an older big block will fit. It is a bit oddball compared to the older big block though, the heads and intake manifold are totally different and will not interchange with older motors. However, the exhaust ports are still the same so that is not an issue. The engine also has a different firing order as well.

If you're looking to make big power it's not the way to go because of the odd ball heads, but if you just want to leave it stock or maybe put a hotter cam in it then it's a pretty good deal.

Re: a newer Chevy 8.1L

I would think It's like alot of GM stuff bolt pattern should be the same an they made some of them 8.1 trucks with manuals. But that sure does seem like a lot of work to do I think it would be better to just stick a 454 in and call it good.

Re: a newer Chevy 8.1L

In the sept 2011 car craft they have a piece on 8.1s its a 496 as stated they mainly bash it for being a bastard of the big blocks but later say some good things on it, as for manuals the 8.1s came with a 6spd manual the ZF S6-650

Re: a newer Chevy 8.1L

My shop teacher has an '06 K2500 with the 8.1 and a 6 speed. His had some tuning done and some other odds and ends (cold air intake, etc.). He claims he can get like 16-17 mpg highway and about 12 city if he babies it. It's also pretty quick if you get on it. He had nothing but good things to say. And for all the confusion about Liters and Cubic Inches, just multiply the liters by 61 to get cubic inches. A 6.0 = 366 C.I.D.
