Moving the Gas Tank from behind the seat?

Here's a couple of questions for anyone who has put the gas tank between the frame rails. Is there a tank that would fit between the frame rails and would be able to accept fuel from behind the Licence plate like on a lot of the older cars? The second is has anyone found a spacesaver spare tire that fits the original 6 lugs on these old trucks? Im asking the question about the spare because I want to put the spare behind the seat where the tanks used to fit and I know a full size tire wouldn't fit. Thanks for any help you could give with this.

Try this for the tank. Not sure on your spare tire idea though.

Thanks for the info, that is really helpful. Im not sure I like the way the tank hangs down but its definitly an option. I have a tank from my 67 GTO and I know the filler neck is way to long but I could always cut it off and shorten it if I need to. Im going to look at it and see if it works but I think this is a great alternative.

Re: Moving the Gas Tank from behind the seat?

Had a brain storm in my sleep last night about the spare tire. I am going to get one of those 6lug to 5 lug adapters for the spare tire. I know that will work for the spare!!! Got it handled. Thanks for the help

The other thing I didnt take into account about the way the gas tank hangs is that truck is a stepside and my sons is a fleetside and I think it will be hidden much more on my sons truck plus my sons truck has a roll pan in the back. I think that Camero tank might just do the job.

Re: Moving the Gas Tank from behind the seat?

Im thinking I am going to build a box that will look just like the Rear Corner Stake Pocket in my Sons 64 Short Fleet and put the filler kneck in it with a push to release top on it. I dont want to put the filler cap in the Oak right in the middle of the bed so im thinking that is going to be the work around on the filler kneck. Has anyone done that and have some pictures?

It seems like shimming up the bed would make the tank stick out more than less. Have you got a picture of the tank and would you mind posting it?

Did you ever get a spare for behind the seat?
How'd it fit?
