Re: good winshield kit

I have heard that Precision is the best fitting windshield gasket available, and Pinkerton is the best windshield.

Re: good winshield kit

I have heard that "soffseal" is the best type of windshield rubber to use. I had a new windshield installed and the rubber wrinkled in the corners. It was not soffseal.

Talked with a local Safelite. They don't do our windshields even without the trim anymore. When I asked why he said the man hours was the big thing. Our work is done with only one installer. Those trucks require at least two plus they have lost money on breaking them making them non-profitable.

Re: good winshield kit

What do you do with the rear view mirror after changing the windshield? Do you glue it back to where it approximately was?

I used percision from GMC Paul's and asked for a Pinkerton shield and Safelite sent three guys to put it in. The rubber fit great but just as they were finishing, they broke the glass. Returned two days later with a PPG glassand went in no problem. Remember there is a difference from trim depth from 69/70 to 71/72...........They charged $225 and I supplied the gasket.

Re: good winshield kit

Precision seals fit way better than the others. If the softseals are as good as their door seals, they should work awesome.

Safelite installed my windsheild. Two guys, 4+ hours. They seemed to know what they were doing, but said these trucks are the worst to install. My old 72 Blazer, two guys, two broken windsheilds, but the third time was a charm. Three weeks later got a crack from a rock, and it stayed that way until I sold it.

They didn't know what they were doing! These things aren't rocket science. I installed mine in less than 30 minutes. No trim. I also had to pull it back out, and re-install after my headliner install, so as I could tuck the material in after the headliner install. You have to know what you're doing though. I also have a Pilkington windshield and Precision gasket. I will do a free install if someone will do the video shoot, so others can see the process. Good luck!

Mine has the trim, and it appeared that it was most of the problem. Just as they were installing the upper corners the trim would squirt out of the seal.

Re: good winshield kit

I found a good window for mine with the deluxe trim. It took me 3.5 hours but I save $300! I used the precision seal and it takes alot of patience, the corners were the most difficult part. I also did it solo so I used one of those glass suction things, I picked up at NAPA. It was a great learning experience and the help from everyone on this board is like having 50 instructors!
