Another one leaves the shop

Finally after 5 long months, many "change work orders" and owner indecisions this highly optioned, low mile (55k) 72 Cheyenne Super is back in his hands and out of my hair Woo Hoo!! (this build almost burned me out on building anything for someone else)
It showed up back in Feb bruized and battered after being put on its top. (the owner would not share the story) It had been in "paint prison" for 2 years to replace the roof, paint just the cab and bolt the truck back together.
Upon arrival here the only parts that were undamaged were the cab, hood, tailgate, bed floor and front panel.
Both doors had the mirrors tore off, both front fenders were bent in.. the passenger bed side was toast, the drivers side was crushed in but fixable.
I started digging and came up with a set of pristine OEM fenders, NOS grill and bumper, NOS drivers door, located a complete bed with an Aux fuel tank and side tool box and set out to make it pretty once again.
Halfway through the owner decides he wanted more fuel capacity so a Blazer rear tank was added, he also did not like the factory Aux fuel tank filler neck sticking out of the bed side so he asks me to add "square" filler doors.
Next he decides that he did not like the 450hp aluminum headed, roller cammed 383 stroker that was in it.. so he brings me a 68 Aniversary truck rust bucket with a rebuilt 396 in it and says put this in. Uh .. ok.. Had to recalculate the bid again!!..
Oh well I now have a nice 383 stroker to put into something and a bunch of goodies of the 68 parts truck.

Nice work!

He certainly traded down on engines. A healthy 383 SBC will skull drag a truck spec 396. Nice score!

Nice truck and work, but can't believe you can complain about more work (money) in this slow economy.

Not complaining at all about more work, just the owners indecisions and frequent mind changes on what he wanted or didn't want

Here's a few more pics, I didn't get many when it first arrived, I started shooting more while I dissasembled it.. you can see some of the damage.

Re: Another one leaves the shop

Out comes the 383 in goes the 396, Then started test fitting the replacement parts.. Oopss.. the NOS drivers door was horrible.. Had to cut off the window frame and take one off of another door. So much for OEM parts fitting.. LOL...

My truck has been "in process" for almost 4 years. My youngest son and I retrieved it and we've been doing it and learning by the skin of our knuckles. I gotta pick up my rear end and driveshaft, then we can start putting the chassis back together and spending more money.

Re: Another one leaves the shop

Next went junkyard hopping to find some gas doors.. found a pair off of a Diesel F%&d.. yup.. they were the closest to flat I could find and still had to spend many hours recontouring, shrinking and stretching to get them to fit and achieve the desired shape..
Next I took a look inside the factory Aux fuel tank. YUK!!.. decided to have it cloned out of aluminum.. ahh much better!
Then focused my attention to the tail light area of the tool box bed side, it had been damaged a bit.. boy that was a challenge to get straight!

Then sent all the sheet metal off to get media blasted and power coated with "dry epoxy primer"
