Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

Here's a '72 that is for sale on eBay. It has a 350, 4-speed (not a granny low gearbox) and a posi. All of it on the SPID. Never saw that combo before, but it would have been on my short list, back in the day. Gearshifter seems a bit much, but never saw one so never drove one to know if it is, or not.

Re: Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

Where are you getting this transmission info from?
I see nothing there except for the mention of the 4 speed itself and the wild shifter knob?
Looks like the typical truck trans to me, granny low.

GM didn't put those car transmissions into trucks.....and you shouldn't either. Unless you really know what you are looking at as far as 1 gear ratio...and are prepared to run a rear end gear low enough to take advantage of it, it's going to be a problem to drive.

Re: Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

Car trannys can work well in trucks. I once put a Muncie close ratio 4 sp out of an SS Nova in my 1/2 ton truck. M21 or 22. I ran that one for near 10 years with no problems at all. I didn't race it but did play with it a bunch. Spirited driving if you will.
A friend had a Muncie behind a built 396 in his 71 pkup. It ran gooooood.

Re: Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

Pretty sure that is just the option code number and that it is a standard truck 4 speed. I put a muncie M 20 in my 66. Shifter for the car 4 speeds mount on the tail shaft and consequently, the shifter is right up against the seat. The shifter in that truck is out of the top of the 465 transmission as per normal.

Re: Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

The SPID for my truck lists 3M25GC for the granny low 4 speed. This is a 3/4 ton GMC though.

This website list the M20 as only a 4 speed...not specific as to the model

Re: Never saw one with an M20 4-speed

The SPID on my 70 Burb has the M20 4 speed transmission option. It was the truck 465 transmission. That truck has the normal truck factory 4 speed in it.
