Tach dash issues

I just realized that my original tach dash stops at 2500rpm. Does not look like any physical damage. The truck can be further reved but the tach makes a clean stop at the rpm. Does anyone have any idea. The tach dash originally came with an air pressure gauge instead of vaccum. Thanks

Your going to have to remove the dash from the truck. And then the tach from the instrument case. Once removed, using compressed air in a can, carefully blow air around the tach meter path of travel. It's possible there could be some debris lodged in this area. You may want to use a safe electronic board cleaner in addition.
Also, if you own or have access to a ohm/volt meter you could check to see if the tach meter itself is ok. If you don't know how to test it, lmk and I'll tell you.

Re: Tach dash issues

Dave my tach only works when it wants too, lately it just quit all together. Been thinking about tinkering with it but other issues always seems to get the attention first. Any ideas besides the plug connection on the rear? I will reseat that plug first incase its a simple connection thing.

Sammy,
Your right, check all connections first. If no change, your going to have to do the same. Basically, remove tach from the instrument case and perform the above steps. I can explain in furthur detail how to check the tach a ohm/volt meter. Generally, often times it's something simple. LMK.

Is this something that you can explain here?

Re: Tach dash issues

thanks for the help. I removed the tach and confirmed that the needle travels freely from 0 rpm to 5000rpm which tells me its not a mechanical issue although when I drove the truck and first saw this issue, it made a dead stop at 2500rpm implying something mechanicall was holding it back. Anyway, can you explain how to check with the ohm meter? It dont believe the issue is electronic only because it functions properly and accurately between 0-2500 rpm. No bounce etc. but it has to be mech or electrical so I'll try anything twice. thanks again

Keith,
I'm probably need to get some pic's, showing where to place the meter leads, etc. Just a quick check of the meter assembly it what I had in mind.
